MercyMe Stopped By Seacrest Studios To Perform For Patients!

Children’s Medical Center of Dallas welcomed the Christian rock band MercyMe to Seacrest Studio on March 28th. The band, which was founded in Greenville, Texas, performed several hit songs and chatted about their music with a large studio audience. The band members that visited the studio were vocalist Bart Millard, percussionist Robby Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran, and guitarists Mike Scheuchzer and Barry Graul. MercyMe has been together nearly twenty years, receiving numerous Grammy Award nominations and Dove Awards. Millard is one of the founding members of the band and said the group’s name, MercyMe, was inspired by his grandmother. He was working as a youth ministry intern in Florida when he told his grandmother that he wanted to start a band. “She said, ‘Mercy me, why don’t you get a real job?’” Millard said.

MercyMe performed So Long Self, Move, Finally Home, and I Can Only Imagine, as well as, Dont Bring Me Down (by Electric Light Orchestra.) The band said I Can Only Imagine was written after Millard’s father passed away, and the success of the single was unexpected. “When we wrote the song, we knew it was special to us, but we had no idea what was about to take place. It’s been surreal to say the least,” Millard said.

Millard’s son, Sam, was part of the studio crowd. The eleven-year-old was diagnosed with Diabetes when he was two, and he was treated at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. Millard opened up about this during the interview. “Children’s literally saved his life,” he said. “We frequented this place a lot, and still do. So, it’s an honor for us to be here.” The band recently wrapped up The Rock and Worship Roadshow and said they are looking forward to spending time with their families. They have several concerts scheduled in upcoming months and will slowly work on a new record. Big thanks to MercyMe for the special visit!
